Environmental Reporting and Simplification Workshop
Reducing Administrative Burden in Environmental Legislation
The European Commission presents the second online workshop as part of the study 'Environmental Reporting and Simplification - Trinomics,' examining reporting obligations and administrative requirements within DG Environment's legislative portfolio. This consultation activity provides stakeholders with opportunities to review draft conclusions and provide feedback on cost assumptions and simplification proposals for environmental legislation.
Workshop Focus
The European Commission's study team has conducted comprehensive review of legislative instruments managed by DG Environment, identifying reporting obligations and other administrative requirements while assessing their costs and, where possible, their benefits. Concrete simplification options have been reviewed for selected legislative acts. This project has informed the proposed Environmental Omnibus package and will continue supporting DG ENV's ongoing efforts to reduce administrative burden of its legislation.
Please note this project does not relate to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, or Taxonomy Regulation, which are not managed by DG ENV.
Workshop Purpose
The main purpose of this workshop is to present draft conclusions of the completed work, including summary of reporting and administrative costs for legislation managed by DG Environment. Consultants will present analysis conducted to test cost assumptions and suggestions for reducing administrative costs on certain legislative pieces with workshop participants.
What to Expect
This online consultation workshop enables stakeholders to review findings from the comprehensive study examining environmental reporting requirements and administrative burdens. Participants will have opportunities to provide feedback on cost assessments, discuss proposed simplification options, and contribute to ongoing efforts to streamline environmental legislation while maintaining regulatory effectiveness. The session facilitates dialogue between the study team and stakeholders on practical approaches to reducing administrative burden without compromising environmental protection objectives.
