Closing of Injunction Against Google LLC and GOOGLE IRELAND LIMITED by the CNIL Restricted Committee

By

On July 13, 2023, the Restricted Committee of the CNIL (National Commission on Informatics and Liberty in France), closed the injunction issued on December 31, 2021 against Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited. On December 31, 2021, the Restricted Committee had also imposed a fine of €150 million in addition to ordering Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited to allow users of the websites google.fr and youtube.com located in France to refuse the cookies placed on their terminals as easily as to accept them within three months. The closure of the procedure does not mean that the new Cookie Consent windows implemented by Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited are compliant with the laws provided under Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act. The CNIL reserves its right to check the compliance of these websites and may take further enforcement actions if necessary.
