UK Data Protection Regulator Investigating Meta's Plans for Behavioral Advertising in the EU
The ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) is looking into Meta's proposed plans to seek consent from EU users for behaviour-based advertising while excluding UK users. This comes after the CJEU, Irish Data Protection Commission and Norwegian Data Protection Authority have all made findings related to this issue. The ICO is assessing what this means for people in the UK and considering an appropriate response. Stephen Almond, ICO Executive Director of Regulatory Risk, said that as digital regulators they pay close attention to how companies operate internationally and how people's rights are respected.
