CNIL Sandbox Call for Projects: Artificial Intelligence for the Benefit of Public Services

By

The CNIL has announced its third edition of the “sandbox”, an innovation project dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) for the benefit of public services. The call for projects is open until 30 September 2023 and is open to organisations from both the public and private sectors who have a clear use case for using AI in their operations. Upon application, successful applicants will enter a “sandbox” which involves support from the CNIL’s new AI department for 3-6 months. During the “sandbox” period, the CNIL experts and the applicant organisation work together to identify any issues surrounding the implementation of the AI use case and develop pragmatic solutions. This includes regular meetings, as well as workshops and training sessions as needed. At the end of the period, the CNIL publishes a summary of the work and recommendations made on the project and the applicant implements the recommended changes in their operations. This allows the organisation to ensure that they are compliant with data protection laws, as well as any potential regulation that may be imposed by future European AI regulation.
